Coosa

Coosa – DeSoto encounters this group in July 1540 living along the Coosa River and Etowah Mounds area and says they are very powerful. They grant him safe passage through several other towns while he holds their chief hostage. This town is abandoned by 1799 and it’s citizens are rumored to have moved to other towns. Towns associated with Coosa are Big Tulsa, Talisi, Tallise, Nafape, Okfuskee, Oefasquets, Teatoksofka, and Talisse. Otciapofa (Hickory Ground) is a sub-town of Little Tulsa. Little Tulsa was the home of Alexander McGillivray – a leader during the Creek-Indian Wars and subsequent removal.
