Fish Day 2019

Registration is closed for this event
This is a social event. Everyone is invited!

Fish Day is held around the time of the fall equinox, preferably on a full moon. It is a social holiday. As is evident from the name it always features a fish fry. (The term “fish fry” Indian comes from those who only come to such a social gathering.) This social ceremony recalls the times after the corn harvest when the people would focus on fishing. Those in the tri-state area would often make a trip to the sea to fish and extract salt from the sea. At Nene Hutke, Fish Day features not only a fish fry but other social events. This is a time when stories and myths are often told, traditions are shared, a night time social stomp is held, and a ball-game is sometimes played. It is a relaxed gathering that focuses upon fellowship, visiting, joking, and the simple pleasure of good food and better company.
