Little Green Corn 2017

Registration is closed for this event
Come help celebrate the end of the corn season!

Little Green Corn occurs two moons after Green Corn and is a celebration of the ripening of the second corn crop and the meal stage of the first corn corp. Just as a first fruits offering of corn is made to the Fire at Green Corn, so a corn meal offering should be made to the Fire at Little Green Corn. These offerings are made to acknowledge the good gifts of Mother Earth are a blessing from Hesaketemese, to “feed” the Fire, and as a prayer to request his blessing upon the corn so that it may bless both the bodies and souls of the People when consumed in gratitude and thanksgiving.

Little Green Corn is always in the South Quadrant of the Square and is represented by the South Cabin and the Southwest gate of the Square. This High Holiday symbolizes the ”coming together of the People” and our opportunity to be a blessing to others. The People can come together with one mind for all has been renewed, cleansed, and forgiven at Green Corn; we are thus now ready to work together for our common good and growth.

Because of the bounty of the second corn crop we can also move from mere survival to generosity – blessing those less fortunate with the produce of the second corn crop. It is for this reason that all the People have an opportunity to speak at Little Green Corn. They can express without rancor what they learned from the previous year and what they desire for the People in the current ceremonial cycle. Little Green Corn is thus our time to be a blessing rather than just receiving a blessing.
